School of Science and Technology is one of the six schools of Bangladesh Open University. To create scientific and technically skilled manpower in the country is the main objective of this school. A. Formal Program

1.Diploma in Computer Science and Application Program (DCSA)

School of Science and Technology offers Diploma in Computer Science and Application programfor the huge number of students those whom are not avail to study in conventional education system and/or whom need to further study in computer science. The aims of the DCSA program are to make computer professionals to meet the recent increasing demand in computer field. The objectives of the programs are to develop skills in-

1. Using a computer and its areas of application of Computer Programming.
2. Using computers for office automation, desktop publishing, computer networking, multimedia, webpage designing, etc.

3. Using databases and database management systems, computer aided design and associated packages, etc.
4. Analyzing digital logic, computer organization, microcomputers and their maintenance and troubleshooting, etc.
5. Computer programming and software development.

2.B.Sc.-in-Nursing (BSN) Program:

The School of Science and Technology of Bangladesh Open University is offering a post-basic B.Sc.-in-Nursing program to upgrade the existing educational level of the diploma holder nurses in the country. The main objective of this program is to provide higher level of professional education and training to the nurses in order to increase the effectiveness of human resource in the health sector.

  • To provide higher educational opportunities to diploma holder nurses.
  • To develop clinical competence for quality assurance of nursing care services.
  • To develop teaching, management and research skills and abilities.
  • To provide opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • To improve the professional standing of the nurses in Bangladesh.

B. Non-Formal Program

There are various non-formal programs conducted by SST, e.g, Related/Subject Computer, Environmental Science, Health and Nutrition etc. These programs have been on airing through BTV and Radio Bangladesh. So that educated, marginal educated, educationally backward and poor people of the country have awarded.

Forthcoming program of SST

1. B.Sc.(Hon)-in-computer Science & Engineering (BCSE)

The BCSE program has approved by academic council of Bangladesh Open University. The curriculum committee of BCSE program has been already designed curriculum and syllabus. This program will run from this school very soon. BCSE program consists 140 credits program having 8 (eight) semesters and duration in 4 years.

2. Master’s in Public Health (MPH) Program

The mission of Public Health is to fulfil society’s interest in assuring conditions in which people can lead a healthy quality life. Public health carries out its mission through organized, interdisciplinary efforts that addresses the physical, mental and environmental health concerns of communities and populations at risk for disease injury. The Masters in Public Health (MPH) program would be developed to fulfil the needs of today’s public health professionals. The degree provides the students with a clear understanding of the roles of the core disciplines in public health.
